Patriotism need not be construed as being synonymous with
racial arrogance or national selfishness. Nationalism can run rampant and
defeat its own purpose.
The United States should lead in peace, pressing upon other
nations a unilateral pact for non-aggression suggested by President Roosevelt
in which each nation should pledge itself not to send military forces across
the border on any other nation.
The President should be authorized to place an embargo on
credits to nations that send military forces across the boundaries of other
nations. This should apply not only to arms and munitions, but all credit.
